In your house, every wall of every room is like a blank canvas. It completely depends on you how you want to style, design, and give a personal element to it. Your room’s interior wall can really make the entire space stand out, in ways you had not even thought of. This is why interior designers like us pay such close attention to the little things, such as designing your home’s interior wall or walls.
The interior wall of any room needs to be paid just as much attention to as any other part of the room. Because it acts as the center of attention and also as a fuser for all the room’s interior. Some of the ways through which you can design your interior walls are:
Reverse Effect on the Interior Wall
In the reverse effect, you take the design of another room’s wall and incorporate an element of that design in the current room’s interior wall that you are working on. This creates a sense of symmetry between rooms and makes both the rooms stand out as well. A simple example of this can be if your living room is right next to your kitchen and the kitchen has been painted green, then you can use a wallpaper that has some green element in it. This wallpaper will be placed on your living room’s wall. This will not just create a sense of symmetry but also a sense of boldness which would lead to an overall enhanced room interior. If you are making use of wallpapers, you’ll see that it is also an easy way to bring color, pattern, and texture to the room and walls.
Eye Catching Elegance
Board and batten, and accent walls are a good way to bring attention to your room’s walls. They are a good way to style your interior wall. However, board and batten is relatively simpler and can be done as a DIY project as well. There is not much of a technique or varying panel measurements that go into it. But for an accent wall, it is preferred to have it done by a wall expert. Why? Because they involve a lot of varying measurements and tonnes of techniques that go into it. There are quite some people who are at that level of expertise in their DIY projects now and they happen to take up an accent wall as a DIY project as well. But if you feel like you aren’t one of them, then don’t risk it. Such walls, if gone wrong, can turn into a huge disaster. So it’s important to be careful. Another hack for this would be to apply narrow strips of molding on to the wall, in the form of framing. This is known as “picture framing”. The frames that you make in this case can vary to emphasize smaller spaces, such as a fireplace. The trick here is to keep the spacing between the frames uniform and the edges aligned.
Wainscoting your Walls
Wainscoting is another technique by which you can enhance your interior wall. The name might sound a little complicated but in reality, it’s very simple. It is to an extent similar to board and batten. Wainscoting is basically wood paneling that lines the lower part of a room’s walls.
If you make use of beaded-board wainscoting you’ll see how it instantly makes the space look cottage-like. However, if you go for high wainscoting, then that usually extends halfways or two-thirds up the wall and is finished off with molding.
Touch of Nature
To make your room look more natural, we’d suggest making use of a wallpaper that has an outdoorsy or wooden touch to it. An example of this can be a wallpaper with a wood grain pattern on it. Other than this, opting for less traditional colors will keep your room’s walls fresh and modern looking. Same is the case for choosing less traditional wallpapers.
The concept of using tiles for your interior wall is still relatively new in Pakistan. You’d mostly see people using tilework for kitchen or bathroom walls here. But the fun part is that tile work can help uplift the walls of your other rooms as well. The only difference would be in the type of tiles that you choose. Wooden textured tiles are available which can be used for your living room’s walls, from top to bottom. If you don’t want to do that, you can even tile just one wall and paint the remaining ones. Another way about this can be to tile only a certain part of the wall, maybe just around the fireplace? And paint the rest of the wall.
For your kitchen, you can use mosaic tiles from top to bottom. When saying top, we are including the ceiling in it as well (might sound crazy, but it looks amazing!). On the other hand, to balance out all the tile work, the kitchen cabinets should be designed in some other material; for example, wood. Just keep them relatively unadorned.
This is similar to an accent wall mainly because of the varying measurements for the panels that are used. It is considered to be less costly than installing raised wooden paneling. Adding wall frames to your wall creates a classic look that fits well with most architectural and interior designs. If you want to enhance the overall look of a wall even more, then make use of wallpaper or paint the wall instead of only painting the frames. This would create a more blended look.
Another cool hack for framing is to form a series of squares. Use trim pieces to create a series of frames. If you use this for your entrance, where the front door is located, you can use the same pattern for your door as well when having it made. It’ll blend well together and the entire wall will have this very different look to it. It’ll be unlike what you get to see in most houses.
We discussed that a blank wall is like a blank canvas, with endless options for you to experiment with. Don’t think that these recommendations are the only options that can be used. There is so much more that can be done to your interior wall or walls. Research, experiment, and see where it goes!
